Mike Bell appointed as joint Chair of two NHS Trusts in London

News: Mike Bell is the new joint Chair of Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals and Croydon Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.

Congratulations to Mike Bell for his appointment as the joint Chair of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Barking Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust.

Mike is taking his wealth of experience, improving the quality and access to care. As the Chair of Croydon, he has created a greater focus on the populations’ health and championed the integration of care to make services more joined-up for patients and to create more opportunities for staff.

Mike said: “Like Croydon, our staff and the population we serve are amongst the most diverse in the country. This should be a major cause for celebration, but we know that far too many of our communities suffer from inadequate access to services and unequal outcomes in health. Some of our colleagues feel their capacity to thrive is compromised by inequality.

“From Day One, resetting our ambition to tackle health inequalities and championing equality, diversity, and inclusion will be among the key things I will focus on.

“I am looking forward to seeing what benefits our Trust can draw from the success of Croydon’s integration journey to coordinate services to better care for people. I am keen for the two organisations I now chair to share experiences and learn from each other.

Mike will continue as Chair of Croydon Health Services and started his new role in Barking Havering and Redbridge on 1st December 2020.

Mike has more than 24 years of experience within the NHS and has held many senior roles, including Chair of the London Mental Health & Employment Partnership and Vice-Chair of NHS London.

Over the past seven years since joining Croydon Health Services, Mike has helped lead the Trust out of financial special measures and has held the Trust Board to account to deliver continued improvements in the quality and access to care in and out of the hospital.

He has also championed integration in Croydon and as a result has helped to form new alliances with the local authority, commissioners, GPs, mental health services and the voluntary sector to make services more joined-up for patients and to create opportunities for staff.

Mike will take this experience to Barking Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust, which cares for more than 750,000 people in many diverse communities across north east London.

He is also a Senior Consultant and Executive Coach at Strasys.
