Strasys “Thinking Differently” Webinar Series
Our second webinar will discuss new approaches to closing the performance gap. It is no secret that the healthcare systems such as the NHS face significant financial pressures. For many years, a key response to financial shortfalls has been pursuing cost improvement programmes (CIPs) to deliver substantial financial savings. This has spurred a lucrative market in supporting organisations to get a ‘grip and control’ over their finances.
Do these approaches work? Why is the issue of efficiency and productivity worsening with all the investment and intellectual capital? Is there an alternative, more effective approach?
We will examine current practices and suggest better ways to achieve long-term sustainability based on empirical research and experience. Our international panel will share a multi-sectoral perspective on how to think and do differently to deliver better value for staff, stakeholders, and the consumer.
We will cover
- The science, behaviours and human stories driving the financial performance in healthcare, focusing on the NHS (UK) as an example.
- The effectiveness of traditional cost improvement programmes and turnaround directors and their unintended consequences.
- Alternative approaches, evidence-based solutions and data-driven intelligence create value and fuel the improvement in healthcare outcomes.
The speakers
Muir is a Director of the OVSP (Oxford Value and Stewardship Programme) and is the Founding Director of OAP Ltd. Muir’s focus is on providing training and skills development to healthcare professionals in value-based and population healthcare.
Muir has worked for the NHS in England since 1972, occupying a variety of senior positions during that time, including serving as the Director of Research and Development for Anglia and Oxford Regional Health Authority, and first establishing and then being the Director of the UK National Screening Committee.
He founded the National Library for Health, was the Director of Clinical Knowledge, Process, and Safety for the NHS (England) National Programme for IT, serving as the Director of the National Knowledge Service. He was the first person to hold the post of Chief Knowledge Officer of the NHS (England), also serving as the co-Director of the Department of Health’s Quality Innovation Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) Right Care Programme.
An experienced board executive with extensive experience in large-scale public sector transformation, Mark’s focus at Strasys is on leading and scaling up health system improvement and transformation programmes. Mark was attracted to Strasys by the way they empower clients to think in different and unique ways through the combination of deep analytics and creativity.
As someone who loves complex challenges, Mark is a highly respected leader in consulting with a passion for driving value. A pioneer for the practical adoption of AI within the UK public sector, Mark moulded his career at Accenture from 1999, leading their Health and Public Service practice as COO of Europe and latterly MD of UK and Ireland, which he grew to a £500m business.
John has had a varied career in the NHS since joining as a National Finance Graduate upon leaving University. He has worked in varying finance roles including Deputy Director of Finance at University Hospital of North Midlands and South Manchester University Hospital.
He became a Finance Director in 2008 and has subsequently held roles as Deputy Chief Executive and Acting Chief Executive at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic FT and Alder Hey Children’s NHS FT, which he joined in 2017 and where he is currently the Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer.
John has a passion for the NHS, designing services around the needs of patients, and driving a culture of innovation to tackle the challenges they face.
Dr Dilshaad Ali Bin Abas Ali joined Hoan My in August 2022 from Makkah Healthcare Cluster, a division of the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia, where he served as the President and CEO to lead healthcare transformation goals under the country’s National Transformation Program and Vision 2030.
Dr Dilshaad was also CEO of the King Abdullah Medical City in Mecca, Saudi Arabia as part of the Makkah healthcare cluster for the western region of Saudi Arabia.
Throughout his career, Dr Dilshaad has held the belief that sharing and building knowledge in key ecosystems is pivotal to leadership succession and talent development. Dr Dilshaad practiced medicine after obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at Dow Medical College under the University of Karachi in Pakistan. He obtained his Master of Business Administration in Innovation from Hult Business School in June 2022.
