Clinical Leadership Development

Two connected programmes for clinicians who lead. Systems thinking, data confidence, and the practical skills to drive change in today's NHS.

Face to face For Medical Directors & Senior Clinicians

The clinical leadership challenge

Clinical leaders are expected to drive service transformation, manage complex system relationships, and deliver against national priorities. Most were trained to be excellent clinicians, not organisational leaders. The skills needed to influence beyond the clinical domain, to read data strategically, to build business cases, to navigate system politics, are rarely taught in medical training.

These programmes exist because the NHS needs clinical leaders who can operate as system leaders, connecting clinical expertise to organisational strategy and population outcomes.

Two pathways

For current Medical Directors

Systems thinking, strategic insight, and the tools to lead across organisational and system boundaries with confidence. This programme addresses the transition from clinical expert to system leader.

What both programmes share

Clinically led, grounded in real challenges.

Every participant works on real organisational challenges from their own Trust or system. The faculty are clinicians who have held Medical Director and clinical leadership roles in the NHS.

Connected to the Strasys platform.

Participants gain practical experience with the same Decision Intelligence tools used by NHS Trust and ICB boards, building data confidence alongside leadership capability.

Cross-system peer networks.

Each cohort brings together clinicians from different disciplines, specialties, and organisations. Structured peer challenge replaces polite consensus. The insight isn't just in the curriculum. It's in the room.

How it works

Both programmes follow the same four-stage lifecycle.

1

Diagnostic

An assessment of the leadership challenges and organisational context each participant brings. This shapes the programme content and peer groupings. All data sharing governed by a formal agreement aligned with NHS IG Toolkit standards.

2

Co-Design

Programme content tailored to the cohort's shared challenges and individual organisational priorities.

3

Delivery

of face-to-face workshops, structured peer challenge, and practical application of systems thinking and data-driven decision-making to live clinical leadership challenges.

4

Embedding

of platform access, alumni networks, and follow-up sessions to ensure learning translates into sustained organisational change.
